BREC and its partners are embarking on the most ambitious garden expansion and renewal since the Garden’s were first created in 1976.
These expansions and enhancements will open the gardens to a wider audience and elevate them to a higher level of quality. Starting with the soon-to-be implemented Phase 1, These future projects will achieve the vision and goals set forth in the master plan:
- Provide an engaging destination where visitors connect to the beauty and importance of flora and natural ecosystems.
- Increase learning opportunities in the Garden through educational programs and interpretive information for all ages –fostering and inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards.
- Create significant positive economic and life enrichment impacts for EBR Parish.
- Be known as a premier botanical garden throughout EBR Parish, the region, and nationally.
- Engage the synergy of the Main Library, Café, Theater, open recreation spaces, and all current and future amenities of Independence Community Park.
